I had a very negative experience with the management and staff at this program. I was asked to leave because I was talking to a woman I was interested in. Before I arrived, men and women were allowed to interact with each other, including sitting together and talking. After I arrived, the rules appeared to change, and men and women were suddenly required to be separated. I was told I was being removed for not following directions, but I believe the real reason was that I went over to speak with the woman and tell her something. I felt like I was being treated differently because of that situation. I am 23 years old, and the woman I was speaking with was 38. Everyone there is an adult, so I was confused about why simply talking to another adult became an issue when that type of interaction had previously been allowed. There was also a male staff member who seemed to have a negative attitude toward me and appeared uncomfortable whenever I interacted with her. I felt that some of the staff members were treating the program more like a school where adults have to follow unnecessary restrictions rather than treating everyone as grown adults. I also made some personal comments about the staff members and their personal lives and appearance because I was frustrated about being removed. Looking back, those comments were unnecessary, but my main concern remains how I was treated and the sudden change in the rules. I believe the management should communicate the rules clearly and apply them consistently to everyone. I also felt that some of the treatment I received may have involved racial bias, although I can only speak about my own experience and how the situation appeared to me. I went there to get my life together and expected to be treated with basic respect. Instead, I left feeling singled out and unfairly treated. I hope the management reviews how these rules are communicated and enforced.
