How this directory is built

Every claim on this site traces back to a source you can check. This page states where the data comes from, what we include, how lists are ordered, and what we deliberately do not say.

Where the data comes from

The listings come from the SAMHSA FindTreatment.gov facility listing for Indiana, parsed on 2026-08-19. That file records 1,253 rows, which collapse to 1,012 unique facilities once rows describing the same facility under different program types are merged.

Which facilities are included

This directory lists 451 addiction treatment facilities: every facility SAMHSA types as substance use treatment (SU) or as a federally certified opioid treatment program (OTP), plus mental health facilities that report providing substance use treatment. They cover 123 cities and 82 counties.

Excluded: 507 HRSA-funded health centers, none of which report substance use treatment, and mental health facilities that provide no addiction treatment.

How listings are ordered

The homepage index is ordered by combined Google standing: the facility's Google rating and the number of reviews behind it blended into one number, so a single five-star review cannot outrank a 4.7 held up by six hundred, and a busy 3.1 cannot outrank a well-regarded 4.8. The blend is the standard weighted rating, pulling a score with few reviews towards the statewide mean in proportion to how thin its evidence is. Facilities Google has never rated keep their file order and follow every rated one, because having no reviews is not evidence about a facility.

City pages are ordered by Google Maps position across four searches (drug rehab, alcohol rehab, detox center, and addiction treatment center) with facilities that Google does not rank listed afterwards in service-breadth order. Absence from Google is not evidence about a facility, so nothing is dropped for it.

County and service pages are ordered by intensity and breadth of reported services: facilities offering detox or hospital inpatient care rank above those offering outpatient care only, then medication support, then how completely the facility filled out its SAMHSA record. The calculation is deterministic and applies identically to every facility.

All three are sorting rules, not quality judgements. A Google rating measures what reviewers wrote, not what treatment achieved. Nothing in any of these orders reflects treatment outcomes, and no facility can buy a position inside them.

Listings placed first

A small number of listings are placed at the top of the pages they appear on through a commercial arrangement with that provider, rather than by the sorting rules above. Their position is bought, so it carries no information about their treatment: it is not a ranking, not a recommendation, and not a judgement about anything listed below them.

These placements never change the list underneath. The order of every other listing on the page is exactly what it would be if the placement did not exist. Nothing is displaced, demoted, or removed to make room. Outbound links from a placed listing carry rel="sponsored".

SAMHSA-derived numbers stay SAMHSA-derived. The filter counts, the per-city facility counts, and the service totals are computed from the 451 facilities in the federal file and are unaffected by any placement. Where a page shows a placed listing, that listing is included in the total of listings visible on the page, so the number always matches what a reader can count.

A placed listing is held to the same sourcing rule as everything else: every detail on its page traces to a named source with the date it was read, shown at the foot of the page. Where a detail is the provider's own description of its programs rather than a field from a public record, the page says so where the detail appears.

What we do not claim

• We do not label any facility "best" or "top". We have no outcome data, and neither does anyone else publishing such lists from this dataset.
• Where a city has fewer facilities than a full page would hold, we show nearby options with the distance labelled rather than padding the list.
• This directory is informational. It is not medical advice, an endorsement, or a referral service. No facility pays to appear in the ordered lists or to move up inside them. The only paid position on this site is the placement described above, and it sits outside that order rather than inside it.

Accuracy and corrections

Facilities close, move, change phone numbers, and change what they accept. Every page shows the date the underlying data was parsed, and the data is refreshed quarterly. If a listing is wrong, or a facility wants its entry corrected or removed, tell us.

Google ratings, reviews, and photos

Where a facility could be matched to a Google Business Profile by street address, this site shows its Google star rating, its review count, its three most recent reviews, and its main profile photo. All four are Google's, not ours: each is attributed and linked to the original listing, and photos carry a visible credit. Ratings and reviews are never reproduced as aggregateRating or Review markup, because Google's structured data policy prohibits marking up reviews collected from another site, and we follow it.

272 of the 451 facilities matched a Google listing. The rest show a generated cover card instead of a photo and no rating, which means Google had no matching profile at that address, not that the facility is rated poorly. If a provider wants its photo removed, ask us and we will take it down.

Providers with no SAMHSA record

Roughly one in five addiction treatment providers listed on Google has no record in the SAMHSA file. City pages list these separately, under their own heading, with nothing claimed about their levels of care, insurance, or licensing. Leaving them out entirely would make the directory look complete when it is not.
