  So many members of staff don't treat you as if you are an actual human being. There are nurses who sit at their computers all day and won't even look at you if you try to talk to them. There is simply no way that the psychiatrist Dr. Howze (however you spell her name) actually has an advanced degree. I've never encountered a less helpful, less understanding, more frustrating 'mental health professional' in my life. This woman, after having spoken with me for less than 5 minutes total, looked me in the eye and told me that I was paranoid. She knew nothing about me, but she knew that I was paranoid. I feel like she's someone who might be incapable of empathy, or perhaps just incapable of introspection and critical thought. If I hated someone and wanted to punish them, I'd consider sending them to Brentwood Springs for inpatient treatment. I wouldn't do it, because I'm not a psychopath, but the thought would cross my mind. They are all true believers who think that the only way to get help is to have those little 'group therapy' sessions. Those sessions consisted of being given a printout, having a therapist read the printout to you for half an hour, and then being sent on your way. Sometimes we got to paint! So therapeutic. I heard multiple staff members talk to adult patients, often patients who were older than the staff members in question, as if they were children. They were so patronizing. This place seems to be nothing more than some kind of insurance scam. They believe their program works, but I met multiple patients who have been through their program dozens of times. Each day has scheduled activities. I kept track, and in an average day, about half of the group therapy sessions simply didn't happen. This left everyone with hours upon hours to sit around, watch TV, do crossword puzzles, paint pretty pictures, etc. Most importantly, this left the patients with hours upon hours to ruminate. Due to opportunity cost, they lost several hours each day that they could have otherwise been using to actually get some kind of help. If you hate, and I mean truly HATE, someone, and if you are truly set on punishing them, then by all means, send that person to Brentwood Springs. I can't imagine another scenario in which I'd be okay with recommending this place to anyone.

  Terrible communication with family, the includes taking days to call back. They do not listen to family, and instead of actually caring about what you say, they are quick to discharge. Some of the staff answers the phone with the worst attitude. When you question things that were explained they are always different. If you or someone else is seeking help, please go somewhere else. This place is not worth the headache they are going to give you.

  I am sharing this as a concerned family member. Our family’s experience with Brentwood Springs Newburgh was deeply disappointing and stressful, especially around communication, discharge planning, and continuity of care. During a vulnerable period, we did not feel our family received the clear and timely communication needed to help support our loved one after treatment. We also experienced confusion around authorization and records, which made it harder to understand what information could be shared and how we could appropriately help. In my opinion, families deserve accurate communication, stronger discharge planning, and better follow-up when someone is leaving behavioral health treatment. I hope the facility takes feedback like this seriously and reviews how families are supported during and after care.
