So far, so good! 😊 Very welcoming community! I need that in my life, to feel I am a part of a community and family. ♥️ Update: I had to unfortunately kick a couple of stars off the rating. Reason being, is the “Matrix” programming that is mandatory. I was in Matrix at Oaklawn and it was amazing, extremely informative, and beneficial! I was bummed to find out I couldn’t do both due to insurance. I was pleased when I seen Matrix in my binder only to be let down. I’ll just be 100% raw and real. In order to heal from my addiction I have to dig up and rip out all of the root causes of my trauma and learn better ways to cope with my mental health triggers. My doctor says the first step is in a group setting because it is less intense, makes sense, but this programming completely cuts out the trauma and mental health components completely! It’s a damn shame because those topics are THE MOST IMPORTANT ones to be discussed and to be educated on in regards to almost any addicts recovery, especially with a licensed clinical facilitator in a group setting, it helps us feel less alone and like we can relate to one another’s experiences and take their advice added with all the benefits the clinician has to offer as well! Minor hiccups with common sense, daily stress, and bad behavior struggles are just a simple symptom of being a human being, addict or not, nobody is perfect! That is what I have gotten out of it so far, and it is simple things that don’t apply to my recovery journey, and I can’t continue to hold back my trauma processing and healing journey any longer! It’s starting to eat at me again. If we are forced, or feel forced to push back what is most vital to our recovery journey, that means a relapse is starting to brew up inside for future days, and I CAN NOT let it get that far downward to spiraling out of control! No way, I have to fall in reverse and above it, not behind and downward! I began processing and grieving my trauma for the very first time in treatment, and it was healing and freeing, but I still have a very long way to go with it all. I have to rush ahead with individual therapy on top of the classes here because I can’t get what I need in a group setting right now. I don’t mean this with ill will, just honest, genuine, and heartfelt feedback! Thank GOD for NA, or I would have been lost by now! I say this with love and advocacy for myself because that is part of my self care journey I’m on as well. I also say it with other addicts in mind too! If my voice can help make a change for a better future ahead, then it’s worth speaking up on! ♥️ It isn’t just THIS particular place alone, other facilities and IOP groups are just as guilty for leaving out vital healing therapies, important resources, education, clinical and professional advice on how to better handle it all, how to process it, how to grieve over and through it, how to better cope with it all, how to get a better understanding of the Ws?, and how to navigate successfully through mental health challenges and trauma combined with our addiction in their curriculum/education! GodBless and thank you to everyone around and in between the stomping grounds of LTC, upper room, NA|AA peeps in and around downtown, hope ministers, center for the homeless, and sober living houses for helping one another, accepting one another, and fighting it hard each day. We got this! 💪🏼
